Social Justice Issues in Language Teaching seminar

On this 8-hour seminar teachers  explore why we should encourage our students to think critically about injustice in our world and how we can introduce social justice issues in the language classroom in a discreet, non-dogmatic way.

The seminar language is English but the seminar is also suitable for teachers of other languages.

Seminar content
Sessions deals with the following themes:

A summary of the literature, referencing major theorists such as John Dewey and Paulo Freire.

How to introduce social justice issues in the classroom through:

  • literature
  • Young Adult Literature

  • drama

  • film and video

How to evaluate language teaching practice from a social justice perspective.

How to evaluate language teaching materials from a social justice perspective.

How to write your own social justice language teaching materials.

ELT projects realted to social justice issues.

Where to find free high-quality social justice issues materials to use in the language classroom.
